Make the invoice do the work

Every row in that table has a home in DealerSlip. Fill each step, open Invoice details & notes to write the terms, then download the pack. The sales invoice prints with dated signature lines for the dealer and the customer. Sign at handover, give the customer a copy and keep yours with the deal file.

Keep the terms specific to this sale. Warranty length and what it covers, anything disclosed about the car, what happens to the deposit if the buyer does not complete, and the agreed collection arrangement. Boilerplate copied from another deal is the usual reason a written agreement fails to describe what was actually agreed.

When a separate agreement is worth having

  • Sale agreed well before delivery. A car being sourced, prepared or repaired before handover, where the buyer is committing now to a car they will collect later.
  • Distance sales. A buyer who has not visited the premises has cancellation rights and must receive certain information before the contract. See the deposits and distance selling guide.
  • Unusual conditions. A sale subject to finance approval, to an inspection, or with work to be done after handover.
  • Trade sales. Two businesses can agree their own terms, and it helps to write them down. See the trade sale guide.

In those cases the DealerSlip invoice still records the money and the vehicle. Attach the extra agreement, reference its date in Warranty & terms, and keep both together.

Common questions

Is an unsigned invoice still a contract?

A contract can exist without a signature if the deal was agreed and money changed hands. The signature lines give you clearer evidence of what was agreed and when.

Can I add my own contract clauses?

Warranty & terms and Invoice footer accept up to 500 characters each and print in Section 5 and the footer. Longer terms belong in a separate document you attach.

Does DealerSlip provide a legally checked agreement?

No. It records the details you enter and prints the terms you write. Have your standard terms checked by a solicitor or your trade association.
